Make the Best Choice in Epoxy Floor Coating

Epoxy acts as a sealant for concrete floors. Epoxy is commonly used on garage floors, and epoxy is also used on the floors and walkways of commercial buildings.

Benefits of Epoxy Flooring

There are a number of reasons to choose an epoxy floor:

  • Aesthetic Appeal: Epoxy floors look good. A wide variety of colors and patterns are available.
  • Fast Installation: Epoxy floors are quickly and easily installed.
  • Safety: These coatings should increase the safety of your floors. Epoxy is resistant to slippage, temperature changes, extreme impact and fire. Additional safety features can be incorporated. Epoxy floors are seamless, so bacteria and other contaminants do not have a place to grow.
  • Strength: Epoxy floor coating is created with a resin and a hardener. When these are mixed, they form an incredibly strong plastic-like substance that is extremely durable.
  • Durability: Concrete floors coated with epoxy last longer and hold up under considerable wear.
  • Chemical Resistance: Epoxy coatings will withstand exposure to potent chemicals, and this makes this flooring perfect for warehouses and manufacturing plants.
  • Easy Cleaning: Epoxy floors are no longer porous, so they are easier to clean.

Types of Epoxy

There are three types of epoxy. Each has its own strengths and weaknesses.

  • 100-Percent Solids Epoxy: This type of epoxy coating “cures” through a chemical process that leaves a hard, very durable surface. It is much thicker than other types, and it is harder to apply. This is also the most abrasive- and chemical-resistant.
  • Waterborne Epoxy: This uses water as its main carrier rather than solvents. It is safer than solvent-based epoxy. It is easy to apply and clean up.
  • Water-based Epoxy: This type is pre-mixed, and it is not much different from paint. It is the least expensive, the least toxic and the least durable. It is not very good for industrial purposes or for floors that become damp. Annual touch-ups may be needed with this epoxy floor.
